We recently attempted to adopt a senior dachshund through All American Dachshund Rescue (AADR). Were both retired professionals and have adopted five rescue dachshunds over the last 20+ years. We withdrew the application to adopt after receiving the most unprofessional, confrontational, condescending, and immature phone call from Diane Irwin, president of AADR. She refused to listen to our explanation regarding the questions on the application by constantly interrupting the conversation with very rude and childish conversational antics. We absolutely concur with the numerous other reviews that stated Diane Irwin is cruel, abrasive and does not base her decisions on facts or what is best for the dogs. This organization would be better served with a rational, more caring person whose primary interest is finding a good home for the dogs. Unfortunately, the ones who will suffer the most from her leading this organization are the dogs, who have no voice, and who need loving homes. In our personal and professional opinion, we strongly recommend that you avoid AADR and seek a more professional and compassionate rescue organization. Worst rescue ever!

My husband and I rescued a beautiful *** dog mix boy from a great rescue group who were awesome to work with. However since we wanted a girl *** dog too and they currently didn't have any available we applied for a beautiful little girl from this rescue group. We passed the references and home visit completely until after they left our house and claimed they thought that our metal fenced in yard was not good enough. Even though our former dachshund girl who passed away at 16 years old who was about the same size as her never had a problem with the fence. Our dachshund boy got along well with the rescue girl we were interested in and she got along well with him and us. When they finally decided to let us know they will not let us adopt her they said the reason was because our dachshund boy is supposedly too big and they won't let her come live with us despite the fact that she is in a foster home that has a pit bull mix according to the foster family that is much larger than our boy dachshund. How did the foster family even get approved to foster her when they have such a large dog living there? She came for the home visit to our house smelling of urine and her nails were very long and not groomed she even seem worn out like she was ill. The foster family seemed nice but were very picky about our excellent fenced in yard not telling us their assumption about the fence until after they left our home and already telling The boss who makes the final decision that. They said that we could only adopt a dachshund who was 16 pounds or more from them. We rescued a sweet little dachshund from an awesome rescue elsewhere and she is loving life with her Big little brother. BEWARE of this rescue! Way to controlling! We would never recommend them to anyone!

Beware! steer clear

My wife and I filled out an application to adopt a little 8 lb Dachshund named Bess. The fosters seemed like nice people when they brought her to our home. We really liked her. Our dog liked her and she liked us even licking my wife's face. The body language between the two dogs was really good. We were told by the fosters we were approved to adopt a dog from AADR, that this dog was between us and someone in a Georgia. We live in Wisconsin less than 40 miles from the foster. It seemed we would be a shoe in. Bess was in a smelly blanket when she came to our house. It smelled of urine. We were told by the fosters that they had a big dog, a pit bull mix. I found that a bit odd but know our Dachshund/lab mix of less than 30 lbs would be more gentle than a pit bull mix. After all they got along great. After the fosters left we were called and they questioned our fence, the same fence that held our 9 lb mini. Our fence is just fine. Later we get a call from the President of all american Dachshund saying our dog is too big and they would adopt to us a 16 lb or bigger dog. What hypocrites they are, the dog can be fostered with a bigger meaner breed than ours and that is OK but we can't adopt. My question to them is what is the real reason? Our race, religion, or something else? We later find out from other reviews that even if they do accept you application you are forced to sign an agreement more strict than adopting a human child saying they can stop in at anytime and remove your dog from your home for any reason they feel fit. No thanks. I smell a scam. We dodged a bullet here folks. Do not support this greedy organization in any way. They will play with your emotions, use and abuse volunteers and worse of all they guilty of hurting the dogs by keeping them in high stress situations.
